Scholarship recipient announced!Emily Freed has been awarded the Damon Russell Fawcett Memorial Music Scholarship award of $1,000 for 2010. Emily graduated from Corona del Sol High School and will major in Choral Music Education at Northern Arizona University
Emily has studied voice and piano for five years with Wendy Nicholls Umbrianna, earned membership in the All-State Honor Choir and All-State Jazz Choir, performed in musicals, participated in National Honor Society, and performed numerous solos while a part of the Corona del Sol High School choral program. One of her teachers says, “As a performer she has the ability to bring down the house with her voice, enthusiasm and genuine spirit. As a student she has the most incredible attitude about life, music, her peers and what is most important.”
Emily says, “I am very honored to be the recipient this year of the memorial scholarship. Quite honestly, I was excited just to apply. I was so glad to get the chance to write about how music has affected my life, and share my passion. Music really has changed my life, and I can't wait to go out and make a difference.”
Arts Council for Youth is very excited to be able to contribute to her continuing musical studies.
We thank all scholarship applicants. They were all outstanding, and we wish them every success!
The Damon Russell Fawcett Memorial Music Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship for Tempe Union High School students who plan to major in music or a music-related field.
